The long-awaited matchup between Filipino champion Nonito Donaire Jr. and Mexican slugger Jorge Arce will take place in December.

Bob Arum of Top Rank was quoted as saying yesterday that the Donaire vs Arce fight, shelved a couple of times before, will happen at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and not in Mexico as previously planned.

“It’s a done deal,” Arum told boxing analyst.

Arum, however, has yet to officially announce the fight set Dec. 15 or exactly a week after Manny Pacquiao faces Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand.

Donaire spoke about the Arce fight last week in Manila, saying the reason it has never happened is because Arce is asking for “too much money.”

Then he gave Arum two weeks to set up the fight or he will just rest the remainder of the year. It’s possible that Arce finally got what he wanted as long as the fight is held outside of Mexico.

Donaire, the WBO super-bantamweight champion, doesn’t think that the 33-year-old Mexican is afraid of him because “he’s a veteran” and so “it has to be the money.”

Arce, the former bantamweight champion, said he’s only asking for “what the fight is worth.”

“He has never faced a fighter of my qualities. He has never faced anybody with guts, heart. Knock me down and I get up. I have never given up and have no respect for him,” he told www.boxingscene.com.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao trained hard at the Wild Card Gym yesterday and impressed his chief trainer, Freddie Roach, with his condition.

Pacquiao spent three weeks in General Santos City, and will be in Los Angeles for the final phase of his training for the Dec. 8 fight with Marquez.

It’s up to Roach if he wants Pacquiao to begin sparring today (a Tuesday in LA) or give Pacquiao a couple more days to shake off the jetlag.

The Cotto vs Trout big fight will happen on Saturday, December 1, 2012 in Madison Square Garden, New york. Miguel Cotto is one of the most legendary and exciting fighters in Puerto Rican history. Every fight he has at Madison Square Garden is electric, and his return on December 1st won’t be any different.

The two boxing superstars are the biggest crowd drawers in the sport. Buy Cotto vs Trout tickets to guarantee yourself a seat at what will be the most watching boxing fight in history.

MIGUEL COTTO

“The fans here make me proud of the Puerto Rican heritage in New York.”

“Austin Trout is a world champion. I always go for the best fights possible and Austin was the best option for us. I’ve learned a lot in camp from Pedro (Diaz) and I know he’s going to get me ready to win another world title.”

“He’s a world champion, he’s undefeated. He’s a dangerous fighter and he was the right opponent for me, but I’ll still walk out of the ring with another belt on December 1st.“

“The crowd here in New York is electrifying. I get a different feeling when I fight here.”

“Camp just began two weeks ago. I’m going to train hard to beat my opponent and be champion of the world.”

AUSTIN TROUT

“I know the Puerto Rican fans are going to be out in full-force, but on December 1st, there is going to be a new star in boxing. They’re going to see why I’m here, why I’m the champion. I have two things in this sport right now – my belt and my undefeated record and I plan to keep both of them.”

“I’m going to take this opportunity with both hands and I’m run with it. It’s very honorable to be on that list of people Cotto has fought because he’s fought the best, but it’s going to be even better to be on that list of the people that have beaten Cotto.”

“I’ve been in hostile waters before down in Mexico and it gave me experience for this fight. There’s only one man who’s going to be in the ring with me.”

“We’ve wanted this fight for years. We knew we had to knock off some people first to get it, but I’m very grateful to say the least.”

“I’m one of the most avoided fighters in boxing, so I thank him for the opportunity to fight him on this stage. This weight class is stacked and I’m going to clean it up.”

Juan Manuel Marquez said that when he climbs the ring to fight Manny Pacquiao this December, he won’t leave the fight to the judges.

The Mexican boxer has been frustrated by the judges’ decisions in his first three fights against Pacquiao, so he plans to take matters into his own hands.

“This fight, I will try to knock out Manny Pacquiao,” Marquez said in RingTV after confirming that he’s scheduled for a fourth 12-rounder against the fighting congressman.

“There is no way that I can let this fight be a decision, because if I do, everyone knows what will happen. That’s because the judges aren’t doing their jobs, so I need to train very hard to get the knockout.”

Marquez nearly retired out of frustration over the result of their last bout in November. The counter-punching specialist made Pacquiao look vulnerable in that fight by repeatedly directing the Filipino boxer straight to his powerful right hand.

But the Filipino boxer was still able to outpoint his Mexican nemesis by coming up with a majority decision victory.

“I said, if you remember, in the past, in November, that I was retiring from boxing. But my inspiration to continue was that I could fight with Manny again… I very, very badly wanted this fight, and so this is a great thing for me that it’s happening again,” said Marquez.

Marquez first fought Pacquiao to a controversial draw in 2004. In their 2008 rematch, the Filipino boxer won via a split decision. Marquez said his December 8, the Pacquiao vs Marquez fight will have a different outcome.

“This fight, I’m training very, very hard. This fight, I will try to knock out Manny Pacquiao.”

They have clashed in three controversial fights. In 2004, Manny Pacquiao scored 3 first-round knockdowns against Juan Manuel Marquez only to be handed a draw. The Filipino boxer managed to secure a split-decision against the gritty Mexican in 2008. Pacquiao followed this up with a majority-decision win in a very close fight in 2011.

Japan’s Toshiaki Nishioka will give Nonito Donaire Jr. a more competitive fight, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael. The Japanese boxer, the boxing analyst said, is certainly more skilled and competitive than the Mexican slugger.

“Nishioka hasn’t lost in eight years. He has won 16 fights in a row and faced several excellent opponents,” Rafael noted in his ESPN blog.

Nishioka, who was the World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight champion, has fought the likes of Rafael Marquez, Jhonny Gonzales and Mauricio Javier Muñoz.

But a long layoff from boxing forced him to give up the belt and was named as the WBC “Emeritus Champion” instead. Rafael said the layoff isn’t likely to affect an elite fighter like Nishioka.

“He’ll end a one-year layoff when he faces Donaire, which isn’t too much time off for a top fighter. So the main event is a really interesting, likely competitive fight between two of the world’s best junior featherweights,” he said.

The Donaire vs Nishioka fight is scheduled to take place at the Home Depot in Carson City, California on October 13.

Donaire will be defending his World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation title against the experienced Japanese fighter. Also at stake in the bout is the RING Magazine super bantamweight title.

The undefeated junior welterweight champion is killing himself in training. During yesterday’s conference call, the hungry challenger to Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight crown said he’s looking at a total of 160 sparring rounds.

If that’s how he does things for a fight, that’s fine. But if he thinks that putting on the numbers in training would double his chances of winning, he could be wrong. Bradley said the chance to fight Pacquiao is an opportunity of a lifetime, and he wants to make the most out of that opportunity. He said he’d beat Pacquiao. Or die trying.

“The time is already here, the moment. I am ready to take the throne. I’m excited,” Bradley said.

Bradley is leaving no stone unturned in his preparations.

“Training and preparation have been going great. I am in the best shape of my life. When we are done I will have sparred about 160 rounds. I have been training for almost three months now,” he said.

“I am on weight. I left the gym at 147 pounds today so I will probably be coming in kind of light the day of the weigh-in maybe 145 or 144. I am just eating a little bit more and I feel great. I am confident and I am ready to deliver,” Bradley added.

Pacquiao is wrapping up his training, and has started to taper down in sparring. By the time he leaves for Las Vegas on Monday of fight week, he’ll be looking at a little over a hundred rounds in sparring. With less than two weeks left to the fight, Pacquiao must be around the same weight as Bradley’s, and may tip the scales at around 145 lb. As a welterweight, the 33-year-old champion climbs the ring just under 150 lb. The Pacquiao vs Bradley Fight will happen on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada.

Unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) is ready to go to war with World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30KOs) of Puerto Rico when they face off this Saturday, May 5 in Las Vegas. This is for Cott0′s 154 pounds WBA junior middleweight title

Primarily known as a defensive fighter, Mayweather told Boxing Scene that he is ready to go to war and be on the attack against Cotto. Mayweather respects Cotto’s ability and says “he must have done something to get to this level” – but he doesn’t really know what Cotto does well.

“If I had to go to war and fight hard, he is not going to be able to outfight me,” Mayweather said. “Cotto is not going to be able to outfight me.”

Mayweather cited Cotto’s tendency to cut easily during fights, noting, “He bruises, he swells, his eyes close, he’s a bleeder.”

“Every time I see Cotto in a fight, there’s marks here, marks there, blood here, blood there,” he added.

Mayweather added that if Cotto decides to turn the bout into a “dogfight,” he will still have the upperhand thanks to his speed.

“He can’t get to the target quicker than I can get to target, so even though he can punch, he gotta realize this. He’s hit the canvas before… He hit the canvas from other guys and he’s been buckled by other guys,” Mayweather told reporters during their Las Vegas press conference.

The unbeaten fighter added that unlike Cotto, he does not bruise or bleed easily.

“I’m not a bleeder. If you cut before, you will cut again. I know I can outfight him,” Mayweather said.

“I’m not Antonio Margarito, I’m not Yuri Foreman. He’s facing Floyd Mayweather, so it’s a little different,” he added.

“I’m glad it happened. With Miguel, he was on his own, he can dictate what he want,” said Mayweather.

Cotto, on the other hand, said he wants a quick end in the fight.

“I’m going to be quick like always… I had a tremendous camp in Orlando,” said the WBA champion.
Who will win in this Mayweather vs Cotto bout? Let’s all find out this Saturday boxing fans.

Floyd Mayweather is known for mocking his foes outside the ring as for dominating them inside the ring but he has hit a courtesy character ahead of Saturday’s fight with Miguel Cotto. Undefeated Floyd Mayweather will challenge Miguel Cotto for the World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“Miguel is a true warrior, a tough champion, and to go down in the Hall of Fame as one of the best, you have to face the true champions out there,” Mayweather, 42-0 (26 knockouts).

Cotto, 37-2 (30 KOs), who successfully defended his crown with a 10th-round technical knockout win over Antonio Margarito in December, was also full of praise.

“He’s been a gentleman the whole way with me,” Cotto said. “I’ve been a gentleman with him. That’s the way it should be. You get paid to fight in the ring, not outside the ring.”

The two men have been mooted as possible opponents since both were campaigning as super lightweights, but Cotto felt his chances would have been significantly diminished had they met earlier in his career.

“I didn’t think about him because he was a great champion, he was a guy who was above me on all levels,” he said. “But now, we are in the same boat, and the preparation we had in our camp is going to be what gives us the victory on Saturday.”

The Mayweather vs Cotto contest matches the peerless speed of Mayweather against the relentless body-punching of Cotto, but each man was at pains to play down his perceived advantages.

“I may come out and not be that fast,” Mayweather said.

“He may come out and be fast. You don’t know what they’ve been working on in their camp. They may have been working on just a certain thing just to get his speed up.”

Cotto, meanwhile, said he was likely to lose if he focused on just going to Mayweather’s body.

“If you go into a fight with just one plan, to fight a guy like Mayweather, who can punch or who can run, who has skills, you’re going to fail,” he added.

“We have prepared ourselves for more than one plan.”

Mayweather smiled when presented with possible strategies Cotto might follow, pointing out that all of his other opponents had spoken of grand plans for defeating him, none of which came to fruition.

“It looks a lot easier from the outside,” said by the undefeated champion, who improved his perfect professional record to 42-0 by claiming the WBC welterweight title from Victor Ortiz in September.

Cotto, however, expressed a calm confidence about Saturday’s bout which is scheduled for 12 rounds.

“Nobody has found the way to beat Floyd Mayweather so far,” he said, “You’re going to see how a person can beat Floyd Mayweather on Saturday.”

Undefeated American boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather respects WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico as a man, but insists that the reigning world junior middleweight champion still has to earn his respect inside the boxing ring.

Mayweather (42-0) will challenge Cotto (37-2) for the World Boxing Association junior middleweight championship on May 5 in Las Vegas. The unbeaten boxer will enter the ring as a favorite, even though he is technically the challenger to Cotto’s belt.

“I respect Miguel Cotto as a man, always,” Mayweather said during a media conference call, as quoted by Bad Left Hook.

“I think he has a beautiful family. I don’t really know him, but he seems like a cool guy. Yes, I respect him as a man, what else can I say,” he added.

Inside the ring, however, it becomes a different matter entirely.

“Come May 5th, he’s going to have to make me respect his boxing skills,” Mayweather said. “Every fighter, you have to earn that. That’s nothing you can’t just get from me.”

Mayweather said there have been a few fighters who have earned his respect inside the ring.

“(Juan Manuel) Marquez, he earned my respect. He made me earn his respect, a couple other guys made me earn their respect… Shane Mosley made me respect his power,” he said.

Mayweather easily routed Marquez when they fought in 2009, and survived early trouble against Mosley to win via unanimous decision in May 2010.

“When it’s all said and done, I’m pretty sure they respect my fighting skills, also,” Mayweather said.

Mayweather will fight at the 154-pound weight division for the first time since 2007, when he defeated Oscar De La Hoya via split decision to win the World Boxing Council junior middleweight championship.
